IDIM: Blouse #1.

I disembarked on a new sewing project a few days ago. I had actually started a skirt with lining months and months ago. It was half done, before I had to focus on studying. When I finally felt like getting back to sewing again, there was such a large gap between from where I left off, I just didn't feel like trying to finish it. So I started on my first blouse/top. In typical "Cher" fashion, I didn't do the most simple top I could find, instead I went ahead with a button-down with collar and cap-sleeves. Here it is:

There are quite a few mistakes, but I'm pretty proud of it. The sleeves and curved hem were quite challenging. There is a bunch of puckering on the first sleeve (the left sleeve), but after watching a few YouTube videos to get some tips, the second sleeve turned out fairly well. Also, if you look closely, there are button-holes, but no buttons. LOL. I just didn't have a full set, so I left them out for now.

The top actually doesn't fit. It turned out to be smaller than I had anticipated (I always assume I'm the smallest size), but I'm OK with that. The purpose of this project was to focus on the construction, not so much on the fit. Fit will come later. The goal? This blouse:

McCall's M636 (see here)

Can you imagine a whole closet filled with all these blouses in a variety of colors, patterns, and different materials AND it fits?? This pattern is supposed to be "EASY", or so says the envelope. We'll see about that.

Have a great weekend and keep cool! It's going to be 106F (41C) plus humidity here in DC. How fun! And stay tuned, a few AT reviews on AFD next week!
