I love a gorgeous blazer. Over the years, I've collected many basic blazers in neutral colors so I figured it was time to add some more non-traditional jackets. But when I come across something that's a bit flashy or bold, I'm sometimes torn. Like, for example, with the metallic trend that's been quite popular this spring and summer season. As a working woman, I ask myself can I pull that off without looking like a disco ball? Yes, I think I can.
This Club Monaco Angela metallic tweed jacket is an example of how metallics can be incorporated into a working woman's wardrobe without being over the top:

Sometimes the texture of a piece of clothing can be a big factor in determining if it is appropriate for a specific situation. Because the metallic threads is mixed with tweed, it appears more conservative and office-appropriate. Also, because it is of "mixed media" (the sleeves are made from a different material than the body of the jacket) and the shiny fabric doesn't make up the whole jacket, the look is not overwhelming.
Since the jacket is such a statement piece, I generally like to keep the rest of the outfit fairly subdued and let the jacket stand out. Here are a few ideas of how it can be styled for the office:
H&M sleeveless top, $12.95 / Theory Testra Pants, $200 / J.Crew Viv patent flats, $188/ Alexander Wang Pelican handbag, $985 / Michael Kors Dylan chronograph watch, $225 / ASOS Jumbo ID Necklace, $25
And also:
Adrianna Papell Seamed Crepe Dress, $70.80 / Cassini Mid Heel Suede Pumps, $206.25 / Jason Wu Jourdan shopping tote, $1595 / Marc by Marc Jacobs Henry Dinky 21MM , $200 / Michael Kors golden ring, $95 / Linea Pelle real leather belt, $121
