Style Strategy: Can I Wear a Boxy Blouse to Work?

The best items in my closet are the pieces that can transition from work to play with little thought. However, sometimes I am inclined to purchase those somewhat unusual pieces  for weekends, that don't always work so easily for a corporate environment maybe due to its print, its details, or even its shape. Take for instance, this boxy yellow blouse:

Not only is it boxy, it has a curved hemline with wide elbow length sleeves. Obviously, it's not like  your typical office button-down blouse or shell. Playing with silhouettes is often office-appropriate, but the key is to keep it looking professional is to ensure that everything fits correctly, i.e., not too big nor too small.

To keep with the boxy silhouette, you might try a crisp wide leg pant:

Boxy Sweater/2

Jaeger stretch pants, $118 / Steven by Steve Madden Akcess pumps, $129 / Zara shopping tote, $80 / Taara gold chain necklace, $188 / Blond Accessories gold bangle, $55 / Whistles | Whistles Sculptured T-Shirt, $130

Or to balance out the boxiness of the blouse, a slim pencil skirt would work wonderfully topped off with a belted jacket cinched at the back to show off the blouse:

Boxy sweater/1

Reiss , $425 / J.Crew pencil skirt, $118 / Anne Klein pumps, $56 / Rebecca Minkoff , $295 / Kate Spade watch, 195  / H&M , $9.50 / Whistles | Whistles Sculptured T-Shirt, $130
