I saw these boots on Endless, and although I have no intention of keeping them, I thought I would check them out and compare them to the Steve Madden Sabra Boot that I tried out here. They are very similar, and the review that I read said that the calves on these were super tiny. I wanted to see for myself!
If you recall, the two biggest problems with the SM Sabra Boot were the super stiffness of the leather and the buckle behind the knee which really hindered any sort of walking. You'd have to have some pretty long legs and be able to take a lot of pain to walk in those! I was wondering if I was going to encounter a similar problem with these Guess Solar Over the Knee boots. Pic from Zappos:
Very intriguing indeed. Its regular price $224.95 on Endless plus 20% off with sale discount and 13.6% cashback on BigCrumbs.com.
Surprisingly, they actually came in a full sized box:
And here they are (sorry, some of these pics aren't very good. It's so hard to take indoor pics at night, but I had no choice since I'm stuck at the office during all hours of daylight!):
The first thing I have to say is that the leather is SIGNIFICANTLY better than the Sabra Boot. I don't mean super soft and squishy like Stuart Weitzman type of leather, but the leather was definitely much softer and pliable. I had no problem walking in these. They were a little bit on the stiff side right out of the box, but nothing a little conditioner and breaking in couldn't handle. The buckle behind the knee was just behind the bend of my knee, but since the leather is soft, it did allow me to walk:
No rubbing at the ankles. Sizing? Pretty TTS. I bought these in a 6.5, and it was just right with my insoles and thick socks. The calf wasn't as small as the review I read said it was going to be. It was pretty typical for an OTK boot.
As for the toe of the boot, it was a nice shape for a riding boot. Not too square, not too round:
Verdict? If I had the money, I would probably keep these. Definitely a pair to try out (on sale) if you were afraid of the Steven by Steve Madden Sabra OTK Boot.
